Social Media News

Swipe right because Facebook is the new Tinder!

Swipe right because Facebook is the new Tinder! At the annual Facebook Developer Conference, the social network announced that it was entering the dating game.

Ironically Mark Zuckerberg declared that his intention was for “building real long-term relationships and not just for hook-ups.”

Spotting an opportunity, Zuck said there are 200 million users on Facebook who list their relationship status as “single.”

The feature will live inside the Facebook app, and Zuckerberg says “your friends won’t see your profile.”

He also added that Facebook won’t pair you with your existing friends.

Facebook testing influencer marketing search engine

News that Facebook is testing an influencer marketing search engine got us all interested. Having just spoken on a panel about influencer marketing, I think Facebook are on to something.

According to TechCrunch, the new tool would help match advertisers with social media creators.

The Branded Content Matching search engine lets marketers choose influencers based on characteristics of creators’ fans and see stats about their audiences.

Facebook will initially focus on lifestyle creators and brands and creators can opt in to participate in the test and set up a portfolio that includes their audience size, metrics and samples of branded content.

Marketers can search for creators using specific audience demographics to target consumers based on several parameters, including location, interests, gender, education history, life events, relationship status and more. The search engine will produce lists of creators showing how their audience matches to a brand’s.

Influencer marketing just got a whole lot more interesting!

Facebook removes 1.2 million fake Facebook accounts

Facebook disabled nearly 1.3 billion “fake” accounts over the past two quarters, many of them bots “with the intent of spreading spam or conducting illicit activities such as scams.”

Facebook disabled 583 million accounts in Q1 2018.

Most of the accounts “were disabled within minutes of registration,” Facebook claimed in a blog post, but Facebook doesn’t catch all fake accounts. The company estimates that 3 percent to 4 percent of its monthly active users are “fake,” up from 2 percent to 3 percent in Q3 of 2017.

Manfred WeberInterview with Manfred Weber, MEP

In this episode, I interview German MEP, Manfred Weber who is also Chairman of the EPP Group, the largest political grouping in the EU Parliament.

Along with the attending media, I asked Mr. Weber for his reaction to Mark Zuckerberg in Brussels and whether he was convinced by his answers.

Shout-Outs: Three Takeaways from Mark Zuckerberg’s Address to MEPs in Brussels

In this part of the show I give shoutouts to brands, organisations or individuals whose work online is remarkable and worth talking about.

In this episode, my shoutouts go to Mark Zuckerberg and his three top takeaways from his visit to the capital of European political administration.

1. Clear History Tool

The “Clear History” feature is meant to clear Facebook cookies, but also “browsing history on Facebook — what you’ve clicked on, websites you’ve visited, and so on.”

In other words, this is a more comprehensive “clear” operation, and this will include both information on actions users perform on the main Facebook platform, but also on other domains and apps where Facebook scripts —such Facebook’s ads and analytics tools— are loaded.

Zuck says:

“Once we roll out this update, you’ll be able to see information about the apps and websites you’ve interacted with, and you’ll be able to clear this information from your account. You’ll even be able to turn off having this information stored with your account.”

2. Transparency with Ads

Facebook is now providing greater transparency with advertising, particularly around political advertising. In Beta in Ireland and Canada users can see who posted the ad, why you were targeted and other ads that organisation is running.

If you’re served an ad, or you go to a page, you’ll be able to click on it and see all of the ads that, that particular advertiser is running at that moment, in your jurisdiction.

“What that is supposed to address is this issue of micro-targeting or so-called ‘dark ads’ – so I’m being targeted because I’m a woman in my 30s who’s from an urban area, somebody else is being targeted because they’re a male in their 60s and they’re from a rural area… and you’re trying to target them with different messaging.”

3. GDPR compliant

Asked about data protection Mark Zuckerberg said they were 100% GDPR compliant.

Facebook says:

Data protection is central to the Facebook Companies (Facebook and Messenger, Instagram, Oculus and WhatsApp). We comply with current EU data protection law, which includes the GDPR. Our GDPR preparations were led by our Dublin-based data protection team and supported by the largest cross-functional team in Facebook’s history.”

Ask JSB

In this week’s #AskJSB, I’m actually asking the question…off Mark Zuckerberg! Yes that’s right!

The first question asked off Zuck was mine after the EPP Group invited fans to submit there questions.

So here it is:

Don’t forget if you have a burning social media or digital marketing question, simply click on digitaltraininginstitute.ie/askjsb and leave me a voicemail. You can also send me your question to any of our social networks.

JSB’s Column: My Reaction to Zuckerberg, MEPs and Changes to Facebook

In today’s JSB’s column I give you my immediate reaction to Zuck in Brussels.

Here’s my Facebook Live after seeing Mark stroll pass me – just one foot away. Despite not getting a chance to interview him, perhaps I can say that I sort of met him.

Social Media Tool of the Week: Sweet Process

The social media tool that saved my working week this week is Sweet Process.

I love standard operating procedures. I even have one for this podcast! I follow a formula which cuts down the time to create it without impacting the quality of it.

In business, we should try and create processes for repetitive tasks and if you struggle to doing that then Sweet Process might be just what you are looking for.

I started using it this week to build up a series of processes that I have in my head but should really be documented somewhere.

So why should you consider using it?

  • Free up your time
  • Stop spending time on repetitive tasks. Get them documented and out of your head, so someone else can do them. Now you’re free to focus on growing your business.
  • When a team member leaves, training their replacement is a breeze since all of their tasks have been documented and refined over time.
  • Reduce errors and re-do’s
  • Procedures are easy to follow, illustrated with screenshots, videos and checkboxes to ensure no steps are missed.
  • Add value to your business
  • A business built on a foundation of well-documented Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) has a higher value, which grows over time.
