So what’s the hype with Snapchat? Is it just for teens to engage in sexting or does it have a real business objective for corporates and organizations?Add me on Snapchat. I'm jsbnsnaps. Click To Tweet
Come behind the scenes of Digital Training Institute with Joanne Sweeney-Burke. This vlog is for marketers, business owners, bloggers and those of you taking your skills into the Digital Age.
Let’s look at the statistics for a second. Snapchat has 166 million daily active users, 9,000 photos are shared every second on the social app, 10 billion videos are also shared every single day.
Did you know 16 heads of state of government are also using Snapchat? So, who’s it for?
I can tell you why there is so much hype around Snapchat. It’s because of the penetration levels. Did you know that, after Facebook, Snapchat has the highest levels of engagement?
Users are spending 30 minutes per day in the app. And did you know that the highest penetration levels are in Ireland? We absolutely love Snapchat.
That’s the difference with Snapchat and that’s why it’s taking off among not just Gen Z, Millennials, but also the older demographic.
And remember, the world is becoming younger because half of the world’s population is currently under the age of 30. We are living in an age where social media is evolving, and Snapchat has hype because its evolution has matched what me and you, the prosumer, actually wants.
And is it no surprise then that Facebook and Instagram are actually emulating much of the unique features, well, that used to be unique to Snapchat, and they’re now putting them on their platforms? So I guess Snapchat is doing something right, because we’re enjoying it.
Snapchat & Personalisation
We are now living also in the personalisation age and we don’t want to know what your company is doing. We want to know about the people, and Snapchat brings us right inside the doors of organisations, of board rooms, of corporates and of people’s lives. It allows us to create a personal connection, showcase your personality and also develop a really deep relationship.
I also use it for personalisation. So I invite people into my working and my business life, and it allows me to showcase the JSB Talks Digital personality at a deeper level.
Podcast number 31 is now live on iTunes and Stitcher and I have a super interview with YouTube hero and influencer, Roberto Blake, so check it out.
So by now you might be considering using Snapchat in your business or your organization or to develop your personal brand. So you might be asking yourself, “JSB, where do I start?”
Well, let me tell you where I think you should start. First of all, establish why you want to use the platform. What is your mission statement?
Is it to showcase your personality, bring people in behind the scenes? Also, you must decide, well, how often am I gonna use the social app? After all, the stories and the snaps disappear after 10 seconds or 24 hours.
So I would have a content strategy for Snapchat, usually picking one theme and doing a Snapchat story. So 10-second videos, five, six snaps every single day. I would also try and implement some of “JSB’s 8 Content Marketing Hacks” on Snapchat, and you’ll find that at the link in the next section.
So, what do you think about Snapchat? Are you going to try it? Are you already using the social app for your business or your personal brand? Let me know.
